Bangladesh: natural hazards and environmental issues

January 16, 7:30 p.m.
Grace United Methodist Church, 3700 Cottage Grove Avenue, Des Moines

Speaker: Jill Watrous

Jill traveled last summer in Bangladesh with other Iowa teachers in the Geographic
Alliance of Iowa, via a Fulbright-Hays grant. Their studies focused on natural hazards
affecting health and communities: cyclones, flooding, mudslides, and water quality
issues related to pollution and arsenic. They also studied related cultural and gender
issues.

Jill has worked in gifted/talented education for fifteen years. Before that, she
worked as a historical photographer, graphic designer, editor, and with the museum
collection at the Des Moines Art Center as well as teaching studio art classes. She
also coordinated a grant project for the Iowa Arts Council and Iowa Department
of Education.

Parking and entrance are on the south side of the church. Enter the parking lot
