Request for Applications - Water Committee
ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY STRATEGY TEAM SEEKS MEMBERS FOR WATER COMMITTEE
Do you agree we need clean water? Do you have 5 or so hours monthly to
contribute volunteer leadership towards promoting clean water, defending
the Clean Water Act from rollbacks and working to help Sierra Club clean
water activists in their effectiveness? The EQST is currently inviting
member applications to fill three (3) positions on the National Water
Committee.
COMMITTEE OVERVIEW
Sierra Club’s Water Committee works towards long-term Clean Water policy
and implementation issues. Members promote these issues through education,
research, community outreach, material development, training the club’s
clean water activists, direct lobbying, etc. as well as developing Sierra
Club policies and guidelines.
Historically the scope of work on clean water issues runs the gamut of
water quality standards, anti-degradation, safe drinking water, wetlands
protection, factory farms, cruise ship pollution and reform of the Corp of
Engineers; to that extent they have monitored enforcement and commented on
state & federal laws, and assisted local clean water activists with
material development, trainings, research, etc.
COMMITTEE POSITIONS
The open positions entail pre-scheduled monthly telephone calls with
committee members across the country (currently first Tuesday of the month
at 8pm EST). In addition to the monthly call, committee members
periodically participate in e-mails, and administrative tasks promoting
clean water.
The committee currently coordinates with Sierra Club’s National Safe &
Healthy Communities Conservation Initiative Committee, the Water Sentinels
Program, the Marine Committee, the Rivers Committee, and the Water
Privatization Task Force to facilitate clean water protections across the
country.
