Bangladesh: natural hazards and environmental issues January 16, 7:30 p.m. Grace United Methodist Church, 3700 Cottage Grove Avenue, Des Moines Speaker: Jill Watrous Jill traveled last summer in Bangladesh with other Iowa teachers in the Geographic Alliance of Iowa, via a Fulbright-Hays grant. Their studies focused on natural hazards affecting health and communities: cyclones, flooding, mudslides, and water quality issues related to pollution and arsenic. They also studied related cultural and gender issues. Jill has worked in gifted/talented education for fifteen years. Before that, she worked as a historical photographer, graphic designer, editor, and with the museum collection at the Des Moines Art Center as well as teaching studio art classes. She also coordinated a grant project for the Iowa Arts Council and Iowa Department of Education. Parking and entrance are on the south side of the church. Enter the parking lot from 38th Street just south of Cottage Grove Avenue.
