We are very excited to welcome keynote speaker Kenny Salwey, author of The Last River Rat: Kenny Salwey’s Life in the Wild.  Salwey will present a viewing of the documentary based on his book called, Mississippi: Tales of the Last River Rat.  Conference participants can look forward to Salwey’s tales of his love for the wilderness combined with his folksy wit as he motivates his audiences towards involvement and participation in river conservation practices and advocacy.

Iowa Rivers Revival – 3rd Annual Conference: “Rediscovering Our Rivers”

 

Iowa Rivers Revival will hold its 3rd Annual Conference – “Rediscovering Our Rivers: Greenbelts, Habitats, Clean Water and Fun,” April 4-6, 2008 in Iowa Falls, Iowa.  Conference participants will enjoy this historic scenic town along the Iowa River as they learn about Iowa’s rivers and how to help promote and participate in river conservation, advocacy and recreation efforts.

 

Come be a part of a growing community dedicated and committed to improving the quality of Iowa’s rivers and streams – an essential natural resource which provides so many benefits for individuals, communities and the environment.  Iowa Rivers Revival is excited to bring a weekend full of river education and recreation to Iowa Falls, Iowa. 

 

Friday: Come early and start the weekend at Iowa Rivers Revival Conference Fundraiser which will be held at the Scenic City Empress Boat Club on the Iowa River in Iowa Falls.  The evening will feature a local Bluegrass band, and appetizers, local wine and beer will be provided. A portion of the proceeds from the fundraiser will be provided to the Boat Club to help fund local youth environmental education opportunities.

The conference will take place all day on Saturday, April 5th at Ellsworth Community College.  Conference topic tracks include: Clean Water; Outreach, Engagement, Community Participation, & Advocacy; The Wild Places: Rivers, Greenbelts, and Habitats; Fun: Recreation & Community Enterprise. 

 

Presentation of the Iowa Rivers Revival River Town of the Year Award will be made at Saturday evening’s annual banquet.  This is an opportunity to celebrate the many vibrant river communities across Iowa that are reclaiming riverfronts as anchors for economic development, recreation, and ecological practices. Application deadline is Friday, March 14, 2008.

 

Sunday

The conference will commence on Sunday, April 6th.  Two tour options of the Iowa River have been organized to accommodate those who want to experience the river by canoe or by coach.  Nate Hoogeveen, author of Paddling Iowa, will lead a guided canoe tour down the Iowa River.  A motor coach tour will also provide many of the same features and stops as the canoe tour. River tour fees are in addition to conference costs.

 

Attendance is open to individuals and organizations interested in improving the quality of Iowa’s rivers and streams; an exhibit hall will also be available to conference attendees.  Conference cost is $45 (lodging not included); Exhibitor fees are $250 or $100 for non-profits.

 

Iowa Rivers Revival is committed to education and advocacy efforts on behalf of river conservation and river resources – clean water, rivers, greenbelts, and affiliated amenities contribute to Iowa’s economy, environment and society, and IRR’s Annual Conference will continue to bring innovative, informative and inspiring conference content to river advocates and enthusiasts each year.
