Sierran:

In the interest of efficiency, I quote liberally, with some updating,
from an IEC alert on the Governor‘s Energy Bill.

Action Alert: Governor's Energy Bill Needs Support; Tell Your State
Representative to Support the Governor’s Energy Bill
Take Action — make the calls or send your emails today!

Energy use should be efficient and safe for the air we breathe!
In January we asked you to tell your legislator that you wanted him/
her to support the Governor's proposal to set a statewide goal to
increase renewable energy so that wind, solar and other renewable
sources of energy will provide at least 25 percent of our electricity
by the year 2025. With support (and opposition) building, last week
Governor Culver put this proposal into a study bill (House Study Bill
742).

In addition to setting a goal to increase the use of renewable energy
sources, HSB 742 also sets a statewide goal that will improve utility-
run energy efficiency programs and establishes a commission to improve
energy efficiency in houses and buildings.

We expect HSB 742 to be up for consideration in the House Committee on
Environmental Protection this week, where it will face stiff
opposition. The bill will come out of subcommittee today, and be
considered this week by the full House Environmental Protection
Committee.

Please take time on Monday to contact your elected Representative to
tell her or him that you want this bill to become law and that you
would like to see a "floor vote" on the bill as soon as possible.

Using renewable energy technologies, such as wind, solar and
geothermal energy, replaces old fossil fuel technologies, like coal,
which pollute our air and waters. Renewable energy technologies
increase our energy security, improve our local economies and create
jobs in our state. And energy efficiency is just good business sense,
saving consumers money and reducing energy use.

This is the action we need you to take today!

Thank you.
