Grinnell is one of 18 cities across the US to host a satellite site to the main Bioneers conference in San Rafael, California. The conference is organized by Imagine Grinnell, a local non-profit foundation (www.imaginegrinnell.org). The Grinnell event will feature highlights of the national event including pre-recorded presentations by Ray Anderson, Janine Benyus, Naomi Klein, Alexandra Cousteau, and David Orr, but the conference will feature many live, local events, as well. We have a great line-up of local workshops on regional environmental and social justice issues, a local food banquet, prairie walking tour, hands-on workshops on water quality, environmental artwork, renewable energy and a lot more. In addition, the conference will feature keynote addresses by Founder & President of Living Lands & Waters, Chad Pregracke and World Champion Skier Alison Gannett, who will speak on Climate Change and it's impacts on our lives. Dallas Artist Tracy Hicks, whose work focuses on the environment, will be a special guest, and his work will be on display during the conference. Saturday night will feature a local food banquet prepared by Chef Kamal Hammouda of the Phoenix Cafe in Grinnell and a talk by Iowa organic dairy farmer Francis Thicke. The Bioneers Conference has convened annually since 1990 to focus on practical solutions to the world's most pressing environmental and social challenges. Each October the Bioneers come together as a group of leading social and scientific innovators to share stories, present model solutions, and network with each other. The San Rafael event has reached its maximum capacity with nearly 3,400 “biological pioneers” attending from all over the world. Now in its seventh year, Beaming Bioneers is partnering with twenty-two communities including Grinnell, Anchorage, Alaska, Baltimore, Maryland, Boulder, Colorado, Bozeman, Montana, Carbondale, Illinois, Cleveland, Ohio, Detroit, Michigan, Houston, Texas, Logan, Utah, St. Paul, Minnesota, New Bedford, Massachusetts, Portland, Maine, Salt Lake City, Utah, Seattle, Washington, Spokane, Washington, Traverse City, Michigan and Turlock, California. We are really excited to be hosting this program - Grinnell is one of the smallest communities chosen to host this event, and we hope it will be a great opportunity for folks from all over the Midwest to spend a weekend in Grinnell. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - To unsubscribe from the IOWA-TOPICS list, send any message to: [log in to unmask] Check out our Listserv Lists support site for more information: http://www.sierraclub.org/lists/faq.asp Sign up to receive Sierra Club Insider, the flagship e-newsletter.
