CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The Tallgrass Prairie Center at the University of Northern Iowa presents a "Native Seed Harvest and Cleaning Workshop," from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 30, at the Tallgrass Prairie Center.
Participants will learn when and how to harvest different seed species, how to determine seed ripe/fill, cleaning and conditioning to improve seed quality and tips on seed storage. In addition to a "Name that Seed" quiz with prizes, the workshop will feature hands-on, low-tech harvest and cleaning techniques, mechanical harvest and cleaning demonstrations and equipment demonstrations.
A registration fee of $50 includes a catered lunch, a native seed production manual and reference materials. Space is limited. Registration is due to Ryan Welch, outreach coordinator at the Tallgrass Prairie Center, no later than Friday, Oct. 24.
