Iowa DNR News Environmental Services Division For immediate release Oct. 10, 2008 GENERATORS FAIL AT ANAMOSA WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT MEDIA CONTACT: Sue Miller at (563) 927-2640 or [log in to unmask] ANAMOSA – The city of Anamosa reported to DNR Tuesday morning that generators at its wastewater treatment plant failed about 10:30 a.m. The city has been using emergency generators to operate plant equipment since the June flood disabled the control building. The emergency generators have been running non-stop since June. Plant employees plan to hook up a smaller generator to run the plant’s pumps by Tuesday evening. Once completed, repairs should allow wastewater treatment. However, the city will not be able to disinfect wastewater until a new, larger generator is installed. Until the new generator is installed, people should avoid direct contact with the Wapsipinicon River near the plant. However, fish caught in the area will be safe to eat if properly washed and cooked. - 30 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - To unsubscribe from the IOWA-TOPICS list, send any message to: [log in to unmask] Check out our Listserv Lists support site for more information: http://www.sierraclub.org/lists/faq.asp To view the Sierra Club List Terms & Conditions, see: http://www.sierraclub.org/lists/terms.asp
