Attention Volunteers!
Fall Prairie Rescue Day Activities

Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge will be observing J.N. “Ding” Darling Day on Saturday, October 11th, 2008 by inviting volunteers to join us in reconstructing native tallgrass prairie. J.N “Ding” Darling, an Iowan, was a pioneering conservationist and Pulitzer Prize winning journalist in the early 20th century. J.N “Ding” Darling Day is a great opportunity for you and your group to have fun while performing worthwhile services to help us achieve our goals of reestablishing tallgrass prairie and oak savanna.
A lunch of bison burgers and hot dogs will be available for purchase from the Johnston Kiwanis, and participants will also be awarded a newly designed participation badge for the event. Our goal is to have at least 200 volunteers involved.
Please arrive at the Prairie Visitor / Learning Center by 8:30am. There will be a briefing for assignments, and we will depart to job sites at 8:45am. Stewardship activities will go from 9:00am to noon. If you have any questions please call the refuge at (515) 994-3400.
Directions: From Des Moines take Highway 163 east to Prairie City (Exit 18). From I-80 exit at Colfax (Exit 155) and follow Highway 117 south to Prairie City. Follow the signs to the Prairie Learning Center.
SEE YOU THERE,
Jonathan (Dances with Bison)
