Beyond the financial crisis and the Iraq war, one issue continues to loom as the dominant global
challenge of our time. The issue is climate change, and the threat it poses to the planet is greater
now than ever.

For the past 18 months, veteran FRONTLINE correspondent Martin Smith and his production team have
tracked this complex story around the world. Now, in a wide-ranging, two-hour special edition, they
report on what they've seen, and it isn't pretty. From the First World to the Third, the demand for
energy continues to grow, driven by the needs of emerging giants like India and China, where
environmental concerns take a way backseat in the headlong rush to development. Smith and his
colleagues spent weeks in these two countries: as a sneak preview, here's a section of the film on
what they encountered.
