Beyond the financial crisis and the Iraq war, one
issue continues to loom as the dominant global
challenge of our time. The
issue is climate change, and the threat it poses to the planet is greater
now
than ever.
For the past 18 months, veteran FRONTLINE correspondent Martin
Smith and his production team have
tracked this complex story around the
world. Now, in a wide-ranging, two-hour special edition, they
report on what
they've seen, and it isn't pretty. From the First World to the Third, the demand
for
energy continues to grow, driven by the needs of emerging giants like
India and China, where
environmental concerns take a way backseat in the
headlong rush to development. Smith and his
colleagues spent weeks in these
two countries: as a sneak preview, here's a section of the film on
what they
encountered.
