The Des Moines Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (DMAMPO) is holding a
public input meeting this coming Wednesday, November 5.

Wednesday, November 5
Citizen Transportation Congress
6:30 pm
Roosevelt High School Library
(On the south side of the high school facing the freeway, and just northwest
of the 42nd Street interchange)
4419 Center Street in Des Moines

This meeting is called the Citizen Transportation Congress, convened twice a
year. At the May 2008 meeting, about forty citizens attended and discussed
goals for our region's future.

This is a great opportunity to...

Voice your concerns about unneeded, expensive projects like the proposed
Northeast Polk County Beltway and the NW 26th Street project/ MLK Parkway
Extension.

Show your support for expanding public transit service, passenger trains
from Des Moines to other cities, adding bike lanes to existing roads, and
other sensible projects.

The public views presented at the meeting in May weren't just documented and
shoved in a file. The DMAMPO drafted a set of goals and objectives for the
long-range transportation plan. These include specifics on how to provide
transportation choices and protect natural resources. You can read that
draft at this link:
http://www.desmoinesmetro.com/pdfs/DMAMPO%20Horizon%20Year%202035%20Long-Range%20Transportation%20Plan%20-%20Draft.pdf

Hope to see you on Wednesday. Your participation can help change regional
planning to reduce auto-dependence and direct investments away from
sprawl-promoting infrastructure.

Thanks to Stephanie Weisenbach of 1000 Friends of Iowa for information about
this meeting.
