I am certainly not in climate change denial, but I found it reassuring a few minutes ago, at about 3:20 this morning, January 15, 2009, to look at the thermometer outside our kitchen window and see it reading minus 18 degrees F.
 
This is like the cold we used to have back in the 1960s.
 
I want to believe that global warming is not so far advanced that we no longer have time to do something about it.
 
Yes, the recent melting of glaciers and the polar ice is evidence otherwise.
 
But this winter's temperatures in Iowa and elsewhere (minus 42 in International Falls, Minnesota), dangerously cold as they are, seem actually welcome to me.
