DUNCOMBE: Approximately 300 gallons of diesel spilled at the Hwy 20 bridge over Brushy Creek just outside of Duncombe following an accident involving a semi tractor/trailer early this morning.

The accident involved only the semi and happened around 3 a.m. Cause of the accident is uncertain and no serious injuries were reported.

It is unknown how much of the diesel fuel actually reached Brushy Creek. The Region 5 HazMat crew based in Fort Dodge, the Duncombe Fire Department and the Department of Transportation responded to the spill. Booms were used to contain the diesel, however a sheen still appeared on the creek this morning and additional booms will be put in place to absorb the diesel and prevent it from reaching the lake at Brushy Creek State Park approximately 3.5 miles downstream.

Des Moines Waterworks was notified of the spill and the DNR will continue to monitoring the site.
