Energy act will end reliance on OPEC
US Rep Leonard Boswell, Iowa's Third Congressional District, Wshington, D.C.; July 12, 2009

I would like to clear the record about my support for the American Clean Energy and Security Act (ACES).

Some claim that this bill will cost Iowans thousands. That is simply untrue. Republicans asked the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office to study the bill's effect on the average U.S. household. The study concluded that in 2020 - when carbon is far more expensive than it is now - the act will cost the average household less than 50 cents a day, and that the lowest wage-earners will actually benefit by $40. The Environmental Protection Agency's analysis was even lower, saying average costs could be as low as 22 cents per day.
