For immediate release: AUG. 25, 2009 SMALL AMOUNT OF DIESEL FUEL REACHES PLYMOUTH COUNTY STREAM MEDIA CONTACT: Ken Hessenius, Spencer DNR field office, at (712) 262-4177 or [log in to unmask] LE MARS - The driver of a pickup truck hauling an empty manure tank lost control Tuesday afternoon, causing the pickup to land in a stream about 4.5 miles south of Le Mars. The driver, Chris DeRocher, of DeRocher Construction Company in Le Mars, estimates less than five gallons of diesel fuel has leaked out of the tank. The fuel left a sheen on the stream which flows into Plymouth Creek and then the Floyd River. The LeMars fire department plans to place an absorbent boom across the creek to keep fuel from traveling downstream. The DNR will require the company to remove contaminated soil next to the stream. - 30 - Karen Grimes Communications Bureau Iowa DNR 502 East Ninth Street Des Moines, IA 50319-0034 (515) 281-5135 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - To unsubscribe from the IOWA-TOPICS list, send any message to: [log in to unmask] Check out our Listserv Lists support site for more information: http://www.sierraclub.org/lists/faq.asp Sign up to receive Sierra Club Insider, the flagship e-newsletter.
