LE MARS – The driver of a pickup truck hauling an empty manure tank lost control Tuesday afternoon, causing the pickup to land in a stream about 4.5 miles south of Le Mars.
The driver, Chris DeRocher, of DeRocher Construction Company in Le Mars, estimates less than five gallons of diesel fuel has leaked out of the tank. The fuel left a sheen on the stream which flows into Plymouth Creek and then the Floyd River.
The LeMars fire department plans to place an absorbent boom across the creek to keep fuel from traveling downstream. The DNR will require the company to remove contaminated soil next to the stream.
