Dear Thomas,

In the last week, New York Times, Washington Post, Huffington Post and Peo=
ria Journal Star have all covered an emerging atrazine scandal. Despite Sy=
ngenta's best attempts to block the science, atrazine is finally being pub=
licly scrutinized.

Let's keep the pressure on=BB (http://action.panna.org/t/5185/letter/?lett=
er_KEY=3D1192) Send a letter to your local paper today demanding withdraw=
al of atrazine. The groundswell of voices around the country will help bui=
ld the pressure for action!

Atrazine was banned by the EU in 2004. Around that time, Syngenta (atrazin=
e's manufacturer) held over 50 private meetings with U.S. EPA regulators=
who were reconsidering atrazine's registration. Independent scientists an=
d health advocates enjoyed considerably less access to decision-makers. At=
razine remains widely used in the U.S. despite the fact that Switzerland,=
the home country of its parent company, has banned it.

Atrazine is found more often than any other pesticide in our water, contam=
inating rivers, streams and tap water. The second most widely used pestici=
de in the U.S., atrazine is sprayed mostly on corn throughout the Midwest.=
 PAN's WhatsOnMyFood? (http://www.whatsonmyfood.org) database shows that=
atrazine is found in more than 70% of water samples.

Email your letter today!=BB (http://action.panna.org/t/5185/letter/?letter=
_KEY=3D1192) A flood of letters about atrazine in local papers will help=
convince Syngenta and the EPA that the time has come to withdraw this dan=
gerous pesticide.

Scientists have known for years that atrazine can endanger our health. At=
very low levels, it disrupts the sexual development of amphibians, chemic=
ally castrating frogs. Recent studies show that exposure during human preg=
nancy is linked to birth defects and low birth weight; exposure has also=
been linked to prostate and breast cancer.
