ELDRIDGE — An unknown amount of wastewater has reached a Scott County creek following an equipment failure at the Eldridge treatment plant.

Plant employees discovered the wastewater discharge this morning. The electronic system that runs the pump system bringing sewage into the plant, as well as an alarm system, failed overnight. The city has made repairs and ended the discharge this morning.

The untreated wastewater discharged into an unnamed tributary of Crow Creek. People and pets should avoid the area and Crow Creek for 48 hours.
