BLOCKED PUMP LEADS TO UNTREATED SEWAGE BEING BYPASSED IN FAIRFIELD
FAIRFIELD – A blocked pumping station is causing untreated sewage to be bypassed from the Fairfield waste treatment system throughout the day Sunday and into Monday.
The bypass, which was estimated to be between five and 10 gallons a minute, was discovered shortly before noon on Sunday. The fluid is going into a dredge ditch that eventually flows to Cedar Creek in Jefferson County.
The bypass is expected to stop sometime Monday when equipment can be brought in to fix the blockage. The city will be required to take water samples to determine the impact to the stream.
