King is bigoted--against gays and liberals, artists, musicians, as well as
"parasites" who live off the public largesse--but he isn't stupid. He is
supremely egotistical and quite smart. Ethics don't phase him; he is
self-serving and self-aggrandizing to the core. When he was a State Senator
(the Republicans in control), each session the Senate voted out an
appropriation for lake dredging of certain publicly owned bodies of water.
The conditions in the legislation were such that only one dredging company
could qualify for the contract. Yup. You guessed correctly: it was Steve
King's company. You might think that what with raking in hundreds of
thousands of taxpayer bucks each year, King would have recused himself from
voting on the "King Amendment". If you thought that, you'd be wrong: King
expressed pride that his company was the only one that could meet the
legislature's stiff requirements. Then he'd vote for it. Stiff? Stiffed
indeed.
