Any lessons learned from Gulf oil spill?

It's hard to understand, as I go about my daily routine, that thousands of barrels of oil are spewing into the Gulf of Mexico. That this is creating an ocean of oil that is 10 miles long and three miles wide - and growing.

And that, even now, proponents of offshore drilling are continuing to push for additional drilling in Alaska, off the East Coast and anywhere else the government might allow it.

We're in the midst of one of the largest ecological disasters in history. Surely we can learn from this mistake.

After all, the consequences of this one spill may well last into our children's adulthood.
