From DNR: For immediate release: June 9, 2010 BYPASS AT DIAMONDHEAD LAKE IN GUTHRIE COUNTY MEDIA CONTACT: Dan Stipe at (712) 243-1934 or [log in to unmask] DEXTER-A wastewater discharge was discovered Wednesday morning running from a manhole into Diamondhead Lake in Guthrie County. An unknown amount of wastewater has bypassed to the lake near 8133 Hickory. A contractor has been hired to unplug a blocked sewer line and the discharge should be stopped on Wednesday. People should keep children and pets away from the area for 24 hours after the discharge ends. The untreated wastewater reached a shallow bay that is used mostly for fishing, and not for swimming or skiing. Fish will be safe to eat, but should be rinsed thoroughly.
