Cool Congregations Coffees: Iowa City and Cedar
Falls
Coffee and conversation! In Iowa City on Tuesday, October 5 and in
Cedar Falls on Thursday, October 7. This is an opportunity for area
congregations to continue the conversation begun through the Cool Congregations
program about caring for the earth in the context of a faith community.
The first half hour is time to share updates on individual congregational
activity, followed by one hour of special guest speakers and conversation. Open
to all persons interested in hearing what the faith community in Iowa is doing

Meet the new Iowa
IPL executive director, Rev. Susan Guy, ordained in the Christian Church
(Disciples of Christ), with an M. Div. from Emory University in Atlanta,
Georgia. Her experience includes ministering in congregational settings, as well
as working in non-profit settings on social justice issues. She is excited that
her family’s participation in Cool Congregations resulted in an 11% reduction in
their carbon footprint in the first year!
Susan Salterberg, program
manager for UNI's Center for Energy & Environmental Education, will
introduce a new initiative called, Reclaim Your Holidays: Practical Ways to
Create Meaning. She is seeking one-three congregations willing to pilot a
program with her in fall of 2010. Funded by the REAP Conservation Education
Program and the Iowa DNR Solid Waste Alternatives Program.
Rev. Clint
Twedt-Ball will address how to faithfully engage our congregations in voicing
our concerns about climate and energy legislation to our elected
representatives. He is the United Methodist Church statewide director of the
Board of Church and Society and the co-director of the Matthew 25 Ministry Hub
in Cedar Rapids and the Block by Block program.
