AMES SANITARY SEWER BREAK IS PLUGGED

The city of Ames Public Works Department discovered a break in the sanitary sewer located near the bank of Squaw Creek.  The break was discovered after the city was notified of elevated bacterial levels and a sewage smell in the creek yesterday afternoon.  City crews were dispatched immediately to stop the bypassing and the Department was notified shortly thereafter.

The DNR has informed the city of Ames that the pump and line must be manned or checked as often as necessary to ensure that no further bypassing occurs until permanent repairs are made.

The city will discuss the necessary repairs at their scheduled council meeting on Tuesday, as the cost of repairs requires council approval.
