Dear Sustainability Advocate,

My campaign for Iowa Secretary of Agriculture is in full swing. Many think
the outcome of this election has ramifications for the nation. *Michael
Pollan* recently argued “For the food movement, the most important election
this year may be Francis Thicke's in Iowa.”

Google: Grist, Francis Thicke.

*Denise O’Brien*, who ran for this position in 2006, co-chairs my campaign.

I have been a full-time farmer for 27 years. I am also a scientist and have
worked at the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C. where I
served as National Program Leader for Soil Science. My wife, Susan, and I
own and operate an 80-cow, organic, grass-based dairy in southeast Iowa. We
process our milk on the farm into bottled milk, yogurt and cheese and market
our products locally through grocery stores and restaurants.

The power of the status quo is strong. My opponent is getting large checks
from PACs of Monsanto and many other agribusiness giants. Our campaign has
gotten hundreds of smaller contributions from grassroots folks who
understand that I represent their values and vision for the future of our
food and agriculture.

I need your help! To win this election we will need to have considerable
presence on TV, radio and in newspapers. Please contribute whatever you
can…$50, $100, $250 or more, as an investment in the future of our food,
agriculture and environment. *I will put it to good use fighting for the
values that you and I believe in.*

You can contribute online at www.thickeforagriculture or send a check to
Thicke for Agriculture, P.O. Box 1870, Fairfield, IA 52556.

Thank You!

Sincerely,

Francis Thicke

Candidate for Iowa Secretary of Agriculture
