All Sierra Club Activists! Give Sec. Clinton a Call to Stop a Dirty Oil Pipeline Ever since Secretary of State Clinton indicated she might approve the Keystone XL dirty tar sands pipeline last week, she's been feeling the heat. Thanks to you and other Sierra Club activists, we've sent her over 17,000 messages! The pressure is working. An article today cites a senior State Department official saying that, despite what Clinton had claimed earlier, no decision has been made on Keystone.1 Today marks a new phase in the campaign to get Sec. Clinton to deny the pipeline. 11 prominent U.S. Senators have signed a letter with some hard-hitting questions for the State Department. On top of that, we're asking you to follow up with phone calls to the State Department. We need to keep up the momentum before it's too late! Make a quick call to the State Department to stop a toxic oil pipeline. TransCanada's Keystone XL pipeline would cut through farms, homes and one of the nation's most critical aquifers which supplies fresh water to one third of U.S. agriculture. The oil it would carry creates three times as much global warming pollution as conventional oil--The pipeline would be like putting 6.5 million new cars on our roads, right when we're taking steps to reduce our auto emissions.2 Ultimately, this isn't about deciding where we should get our dirty oil. It's about deciding whether we are going to move into the 21st century and embrace clean energy, or whether we're going to let the oil industry keep its stranglehold on our economy. That's why, with your help, we can must continue building the public outcry Tell Secretary Clinton that importing more dirty oil is not the answer. Thanks for all you do to protect the environment. Sincerely, Sarah Hodgdon Conservation Director, Sierra Club P.S. After you take action, please forward this email to your friends!
