Subject: Tune in -- Sierra Club on 60 Minutes this Sunday

To: Sierra Club members, supporters and staff

Friends:

This Sunday evening, November 14, I encourage you to watch an important report on the top-rated CBS program "60 Minutes," investigating the environmental damage caused by inadequate regulation in the natural gas industry.

Veteran reporter Lesley Stahl interviewed Executive Director Michael Brune extensively for the story, and – while we don’t know which segments made the final cut – I hope you will tune in to hear more about the Sierra Club's strong positions on cleaning up this industry.

More than 13 million viewers tune in each week to 60 Minutes, the most successful news magazine in television history. This is a real opportunity to communicate with the public about the risks of natural gas and ways to make it cleaner.

As you know, the Sierra Club is committed to ensuring that natural gas extraction is effectively regulated and that the industry employs the safest and most environmentally sound techniques. We also are fighting to keep the oil and gas industry out of areas where drilling and production poses unacceptable risks. With this commitment we stand with those of you who are actively working on a local level to protect the landscape and the communities you love.

Check your local listings so you can tune in to "60 Minutes" this Sunday, and I look forward to further discussions as we continue to expand our Natural Gas Reform campaign. If the "60 Minutes" story moves you to take action – and I'm sure it will – then please visit http://www.sierraclub.org/naturalgas to learn more and to get involved.

Onward,

Robin Mann,

Sierra Club President
