I suggest those attending these meetings remind the water quality people that there are those trying to frighten the public into eradicating one of the indicators of water quality everywhere (along with almost every other insect). This link is being discussed on the Iowa Insects list. Efforts to express outrage or even concern are having a difficult time Terminix promises to get rid of your dragonfly problem! http://www.pestexterminator.com/dragonflies-states/ Linda Scarth Cedar Rapids -----Original Message----- From: Iowa Discussion, Alerts and Announcements [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of Jim H Clark Sent: Thursday, January 27, 2011 12:29 PM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Water Quality Review Meetings IOWANS INVITED TO HELP DNR IN SETTING WATER QUALITY GOALS FOR STREAMS, RIVERS The DNR wants to know Iowans' thoughts on improving the state's water quality goals as the DNR conducts its every-three-years review of water quality standards. Iowans can attend one of six meetings across the state. The meetings, part of the triennial review process set forth in the federal Clean Water Act, allow Iowans the opportunity to provide the DNR information to help in setting the goals for streams and rivers. "This is the public's opportunity to tell us what is important to them," said Rochelle Cardinale, the DNR's water quality standards coordinator. "We want to hear Iowans' concerns about potential pollutant levels, how streams are being used and how to protect existing water quality." The triennial review process ensures water quality standards, as listed in Chapter 61 of the Iowa Administrative Code, are up-to-date. Following the public comment period, the DNR will meet with a technical advisory committee to evaluate the suggestions. The DNR will then prioritize issues identified in the comments and develop a proposed work plan to address those items. The public meetings are as follows: Atlantic Feb. 15, 4 to 7 p.m. Rock Island Depot, 102 Chestnut St. Spencer Feb. 16, 4 to 7 p.m. Spencer Public Library (ICN Room), 21 East Third St. Clear Lake Feb. 17, 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Clear Lake Community Center, 15 North Sixth St. Independence Feb. 22, 4 to 7 p.m. Falcon Civic Center, 1305 Fifth Ave. NE Washington Feb. 23, 4 to 7 p.m. Washington Public Library (Nicholas Stoufer Room), 115 West Washington West Des Moines March 9, 4 to 7 p.m. West Des Moines Public Library (Community Room), 4000 Mills Civic Parkway Those not able to attend a meeting can submit comments by March 31 by writing: Rochelle Cardinale, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, 502 East Ninth St., Des Moines, IA 50319 or by e-mailing [log in to unmask] .
