David Bookbinder, who resigned as the Sierra Club's top climate attorney
earlier this year, has gone to work for the natural gas industry. "My position
is remarkably consistent," Bookbinder told ME. "I thought natural gas was a
good energy choice when I was at Sierra Club and I think it's a good energy
choice when I'm working for the natural gas industry."
Bookbinder is
representing natural gas companies in pending EPA rulemakings for cars and
trucks. He is working with prominent Republican C. Boyden Gray, who served in
both Bush administrations and helped author the 1990 Clean Air Act amendments.
"On the surface it's an odd pairing, but Boyden is an enthusiastic advocate
and always has been and has a tremendous grasp of the Clean Air Act and of
Washington regulatory politics," Bookbinder said.
In comments sent to
the EPA last week, Bookbinder and Gray argue that EPA's plans for the next
round of auto rules are skewed in favor of plug-ins. (Hat tip: Bravender)
