The cost of energy is an issue that affects all aspects of our life. Gasoline
is already over $4 a gallon in some states, and, in Iowa, prices continue to
rise.
Our economy, our military and our national security, all depend on
steady access to abundant supplies of energy.
It is foolhardy to rely on
supplies from unstable or hostile countries. We have supplies that can be
developed as well as access to other friendly energy sources. We should take
advantage of Canada's energy abundance and build the Keystone XL pipeline to
send Canadian oil to U.S. refineries.
We all know the United States needs to develop alternative sources of energy to the fullest. Iowa leads the nation in the production of renewable energy, refining one-fourth of the country's ethanol and ranking second in the nation in wind generation. Not only will ethanol, wind energy and the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline give a boost to our national and state economies, it will also strengthen our national security by lessening our reliance on unfriendly energy sources.
Keystone XL pipeline will make our country safer and help stabilize the
rising cost of fuel, keeping more money in all of our pockets.
