SATURDAY, JUNE 25: BICYCLE RIDE, 8:30 A.M. High Trestle Trail, Central Iowa Join us for a bike ride on part of the High Trestle Trail Saturday morning, June 25th. We will meet at the Dahl's parking lot on NW 86th St. in Johnston at 8:30 A.M. Our ride will include traveling over the newly-opened High Trestle Bridge. The High Trestle Trail is a 25-mile trail that will connect 4 counties and 5 communities in Central Iowa. The trail includes a magnificent 13-story, 1/2-mile bridge over the Des Moines River Valley. Difficulty: easy to moderate. Helmets are required and bring water and/or snacks. SATURDAY, JUNE 25, 12:30 P.M. TO 3 P.M. Gitchie Manitou State Preserve in Lyon County in NW Iowa (map <http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=Gitchie%20Manitou%20State%20Preserve> ) Meet at the official parking lot on County Road K10 (Adams Ave.) and we will probably carpool to another unmarked entrance. Description: Visit this unique area that is formally dedicated as a geological, archaeological, historical, and biological state preserve. It is known for its natural outcrop of Sioux Quartzite and native plants that are rare in Iowa. This outing is NOT a Sierra Club event, but is open to all.
