Tom, I also have been looking through the magazine for the Thoreau article. Hard to believe that this was a big goof in SIERRA. JERRY

While we're talking about Sierra Magazine, I have the July/August 2011
issue here, and on the front cover in big type it says "Thoreau Was Wrong". Yet
inside the magazine I have found no mention of Thoreau, or of what he was
wrong about. Has anyone found an explanation of the cover headline on the
inside pages of this issue of Sierra?

On the complete streets topic, we need to devote as much of our resources
to keeping sidewalks free of mud, puddles, snow, ice, and low tree branches
as we do to keeping streets and roads clear of those impediments to
traffic.

Thanks for mentioning that Charlie. I had not read that yet. Dubuque is
on the
leading edge of making their city walkable and bikeable. All part of the
Cool
Cities Plan. Good Going. Jerry

Dubuque was mentioned in page 47 of the latest Sierran magazine as
recently
adopting a complete streets policy. Complete Streets dictates that when a
street

is redone that it it takes into account pedestrans, bicyclists and mass
transit
as well as cars and trucks.
