Last summer, my son Ben and I hiked across the tundra of the Arctic
National Wildlife Refuge together (that's us in the picture on the
right). We backpacked across the 20 million acre refuge, and the
silence was awe-inspiring -- as were the views and the wildlife. I
came home to Wisconsin determined to protect this pristine wilderness.

Now we have an amazing opportunity to protect a huge part of the
Refuge, once and for all. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service wants to
hear from us over the next month to help them decide whether or not to
recommend the coastal plain of the Refuge as a Wilderness Area. This
would protect it from oil and gas drilling. We need thousands of
petition signatures from your friends and neighbors to make it clear
that the public demands protection for the Refuge!

Fish and Wildlife Service is accepting public comments for another
month. Sierra Club and our allies plan to collect half a million
comments before the deadline -- and we need your help to do that.

Sierra Club will give you everything you need to be successful --
petitions, fact sheets, and tips. We'll have regular calls with
organizers and policy experts to answer your questions. You can

The Arctic Refuge is one of our last remaining vast and pristine
wilderness areas. Its coastal plain is home to wildlife like polar
bears and caribou. In fact, the Gwitch'in people of the Arctic call it
the "Sacred Place Where Life Begins" because it's where
the caribou birth their young. But oil and gas companies want to turn
this pristine place into an industrial zone. We can't let that happen.

Help us finally protect the Arctic Refuge by taking the pledge now to
collect at least 30 petition signatures over the next month.
