I think the only answer is to lower the birth rate and assume a stable death rate and thereby roll back the human population globally to less than 2 billion, as it was when my father was born, in 1911. Seven billion of us, and growing, is just too much for the Earth to deal with.
 
The United States should set an example for the rest of the world, but instead we have politicians who worship growth. We had better change that or there is no hope for a decent future.
 
The Canadian tar sands oil extraction would clear an area of forest the size of Florida. Words fail us here, but try these: sick, obscene--proof that the human species needs to stop watching Dancing With the Stars and grow up, fast. --Tom
