This also ran in Sioux City, The Quad Cities and other state newspapers.
It would be very helpful if we could get 2-3 letters to the editor in response to this: one thanking the Iowa Senate Democrats for standing up for consumers; another explaining that the legislation is unneeded - nuclear is already allowed in Iowa if it can compete; and another attacking Kraig Paulsen and the Iowa House for passing the bill on the 25th anniversary of Chernybol a month after Fukushima.
Nuclear power is not clean, safe or cheap. It is dirty, dangerous and expensive even when you used an untested, unlicensed and never been built technology like these unicorn like small modular reactors.
Here are few better options for MidAmerican Energy to consider in order:
1. Serious Energy Conservation
2. Real efforts at Energy Efficiency
3. Renewable Energy including large amounts of distributed generation (small wind & solar).
4. No New Nukes or Coal
5. Sustainably extracted Natural Gas (no fracking)
