Denise O’Brien, the Atlantic (IA) organic farmer who co-founded Women, Food and Agriculture Network in 1997, recently returned from a one-year appointment as an agricultural advisor in Afghanistan for the USDA Office of Foreign Service Operations/Overseas. Denise will speak on Thursday, May 31, at 7 p.m. at 206 Cartwright Hall, 27th St. and Carpenter Ave., Drake University, Des Moines, IA. She will talk about agriculture in Afghanistan and her work as an advisor, and show her photos of farming in Nangarhar Province. A question and answer session will follow.
