ATTICA – The
city of Attica in Marion County has issued a boil advisory following a break in
a water main Thursday morning.
When a break
occurs and pressure drops in the distribution system, contaminants can
potentially enter the water supply.
Although the
cities of Attica and Pershing share a water main, water pressure in Pershing did
not drop so the city was not affected.
Residents of
Attica should boil their drinking water for one minute or more, and then allow
it to cool. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice,
brushing teeth and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria
and other organisms that are potentially in the water. Tap water can be used for
bathing and similar purposes.
Additional
information can be found by calling the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s
Drinking Water Hotline at 800-426-4791.
The city will
take water samples for bacterial testing. The city or DNR will notify customers
when they can use the water again.
