Southern California Edison
announced this morning that they would close the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Plant
permanently and would cease efforts to restart the system immediately.
According the LA Times this morning, SCE cites the problems with the steam
tubes and the difficulty in solving them and the expense as the reason. SCE
says the 19 month shutdown of the system has cost them over $400 million
dollars and further actions will cost even more.
