PRINCETON – A sump pump failed in the main wastewater pumping station in Princeton about 7:30 Monday morning.

Subsequent flooding damaged the electrical system causing the city to bypass the treatment systems, sending untreated wastewater to the Mississippi River a few miles north of Davenport.

The city estimates the discharge at about 75 gallons per minute. The discharge was ongoing at 3:30 p.m., but the city hoped to dry out the pump and reinstall it Monday afternoon.

The DNR will continue to monitor the situation.
