Both historic preservation and sustainability have many economic, environmental, and cultural benefits. Learn more about the strong connections between historic preservation and sustainability from this program. The City of Dubuque has had strong programs in both areas for many years. Recently Dubuque’s sustainability partnerships were featured in a National League of Cities report.

Laura Carstens, Planning Services Manager for the City of Dubuque, will share insights about the Dubuque approach to historic preservation and sustainability. She has degrees in environmental studies and environmental planning, and is a member of the American Planning Association. Carstens serves on the board of directors of Preservation Iowa, a statewide non-profit that advocates for historic preservation.
