Dear Wallace,

Thank you for contacting the Office of Governor Terry E. Branstad regarding your concerns about carbon pollution and the environment.

Governor Branstad has long been a champion of alternative energy, such as wind and biofuels. In fact, he was the first governor in the country to sign a Renewable Energy Standard in 1983. Many states soon followed and signed their own version of the RES.

As Governor Branstad requires of each of his agencies, he believes the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) should convene stakeholders and receive their input before adopting any significant long term regulations. He is encouraging EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy to work with each state individually, giving Iowa proper time to adjust and implement any new rules that would affect its citizens.

Again, thank you for contacting our office and sharing your concerns with Governor Branstad. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to call our office at 515-281-5211.

                                                                                                  Sincerely,

                                                                                                  Office of the Governor
                                                                                                  Adam Gregg, Legislative Liaison
