Attached is a fact sheet from EPA itself. Farm Bureau and other farm groups are distorting the effect this rule would have on farm operation.

Does anybody have more details about the EPA rule?
Soil and water conservation are part of normal farming on my organic farms in Ida County. I turned a broken tile line into a wetland, for example, which drains to the field’s waterway which drains to the creek which drains to the Maple River eventually. But, and especially with organic farming, I feel the wetland prairie space will not only help with erosion control, but also help farming operations too — there needs to be a place for the good bugs to live so they can ward off the pest bugs, etc, etc. And I’m upland from somebody….
Or is the rule addressing something different?

Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller and 14 other state attorney generals are writing a letter to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) objecting to a new rule. The new rule narrows the farming activities that are exempt from the Clean Water Act (CWA). The group contends the rule improperly tries to narrow the scope of the phrase "normal farming" which includes activities such as upland soil and water and conservation practices, all found in the CWA. They also say the EPA did not give proper public notice or seek public comment before making the decision.

Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan input period open
The public input period is open for the initial draft of the Linn County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan 2014-2019 and will end on Sept. 2. The plan, presented by Alicia Presto of the East Central Iowa Council of Governments (ECICOG), can be found at www.ecicog.org/linn-county and is open for anyone to provide input.
Input for the plan can be emailed to [log in to unmask] or sent by mail to Alicia Presto at ECICOG, 700 16th Street NE, Ste. 301, Cedar Rapids. When providing input list the city you are located in, your affiliation (if applicable) and reference the plan in your email subject line or on the front of the envelope. Hazard related photos, such as storms, flooding and snow drifts, in the Linn County area are also being accepted for use in the plan.
During the public input period the plan will concurrently be reviewed by the Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management Division and the Federal Emergency Management Agency Region VII office.
The Linn County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan 2014-2019 will help to update and unify all the municipalities that have their own mitigation plans. It will also ensure that Linn County cities and school districts included in the plan will continue to be eligible to apply for Hazard Mitigation Assistance funding.
CV Habitat and Thrivent Financial to dedicate home tonight
Representatives from Cedar Valley Habitat for Humanity and Thrivent Financial will gather at 5:30 p.m. tonight at 828 C Ave. NW, Cedar Rapids, to welcome home a first-time homeowner family.
The Habitat home dedication, at which the family will receive their keys and volunteers and donors will be acknowledged, is the culmination of a 12-week build cycle that started in early May. This is the sixth house that the two organizations have built together in Cedar Rapids.
Cedar Valley Habitat for Humanity applied for and was awarded $55,000 to build the house in Cedar Rapids as part of the City of Cedar Rapids' ROOTs replacement housing effort. The grant, which covers approximately 50 percent of the cost of construction, is the result of a partnership between Thrivent Financial and Habitat for Humanity International called Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity. Construction volunteers are coordinated primarily through the organization's regional field office and a strong network of local churches.

Corridor colleges featured in 'The Best 379 Colleges'
Three four-year colleges throughout the Corridor have been named to The Princeton Review's "The Best 379 Colleges: 2015 Edition," Coe College, Cornell College and the University of Iowa.
Only 15 percent of America's 2,500 four-year colleges and four colleges outside the U.S. are profiled in the book, which is The Princeton Review's flagship college guide. It includes detailed profiles of the colleges with rating scores for all schools in eight categories based on The Princeton Review's surveys of 130,000 students attending these colleges. Students rated everything from their financial aid to on-campus food.
In addition to being named among The Best 379 Colleges, Cornell College ranked No. 18 on the "Is That a Dorm?" list, and Coe College ranked No. 19 on the "Is It Food?" list. The University of Iowa ranked No. 21 on the list of 2014 Top Entrepreneurial Programs: Undergraduate, No. 20 on Best College Newspaper, No. 17 on Lots of Greek Life, No. 15 on Students Study the Least, No. 13 on Students Pack the Stadiums, No. 9 on Lots of Beer, No. 2 on Party School and No. 1 on Lots of Hard Liquor.
UI external funding reaches $515.8 million
University of Iowa president Sally Mason announced that total external funding rose to $515.8 million in Fiscal Year 2014, a 1.9 percent ($9.5 million) increase over the previous year. The announcement was made at a news conference at the UI Research Park's National Advanced Driving Simulator.
UI vice president for research and economic development Daniel Reed said research funding, which makes up a majority of external funding, rose 1.8 percent (or $7.3 million). He also said the funding portfolio is more diverse, reflecting gains in support for transportation and other basic research.
"Despite a challenging economic climate, we not only maintained our external funding but saw an overall increase of more than $9 million," Ms. Mason said. "This is a result of the collective work of many people, including the Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development, the UI Foundation, investigators, our state and federal relations staff, and our legislative and congressional delegations."
Larger gains in external funding in FY14 included:
a.. Industry/corporate (foreign and domestic): Up $10.2 million, or 13.2 percent
b.. National Science Foundation: Up $2.1 million, or 14.4 percent
c.. U.S. Department of Transportation: Up $1.1 million, or 47.5 percent
d.. U.S. Department of Agriculture: Up $246,026, or 36.5 percent
e.. Iowa local government/school districts: Up $210,926, or 45.5 percent
UI to offer 1-week, weekend web development courses
The University of Iowa will begin offering weekend and one-week web development courses to the community this fall through the Dev/Iowa program.
Beginning in September, the UI will offer five, one-week courses and five weekend workshops in response to the growing demand for employees with experience in coding and web development. The week-long format is meant to serve as a complement to the Dev/Iowa Bootcamp, a nine-week immersive full-stack programming course.
According to UI vice president for research and economic development Dan Reed, the knowledge driven economy means technologies are constantly changing, and so individuals who do not refresh their skills risk losing their competitive position. Similar programs have been launched in Silicon Valley, Dallas, Austin and New York City, Mr. Reed stated in a press release. For more information, visit http://deviowa.com.
Kiddie Konnection Daycare celebrates 25 years in business
Kiddie Konnection Daycare celebrated 25 years in business last month. Debbie Brandt, owner and director, opened Kiddie Konnection in July of 1989 at 2707 Muscatine Ave., Iowa City.
To celebrate the milestone, the company held a butterfly release on July 27. Ms. Brandt invited one student from each graduating class from 1990-2014. Alumni wore a commemorative Kiddie Konnection T-shirt for a group photo. Last week, the Kiddie Konnection staff also had various activities planned for the children who currently attend the daycare.

A rumored presidential hopeful is stirring up mixed opinions as he tours the Hawkeye state. Republican Senator Rand Paul will be at the Cedar Rapids Victory Office today to speak with Republicans. Yesterday, Sen. Paul stopped in Sioux City to talk about the leadership of our country. He told a group of Iowans that he thinks the president is petulant and that he can't handle the immigration crisis in our country. Later, Sen. Paul stopped just over the border in Omaha where the battle over what to do in Gaza took center stage. Sen. Paul denies that he ever proposed a full-scale bill that would stop foreign aid to Israel. This comes despite all of his talk to stop sending money to the country. Sen. Paul faces scrutiny for several of his views on foreign policy as he prepares for a possible presidential run.
A man already accused of two robberies is now accused of a third. Officers were called to the Hills Bank on Muscatine Avenue just after 12:30 p.m. Monday. Witnesses say a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt and mask robbed the bank and ran toward the Hy-Vee on First Avenue. They say he did not have a weapon. The Iowa City Police Department now says Antoinne Davis, 30, robbed the Hills Bank, and they also connected him to the robbery of the UICCU on July 17. Investigators used surveillance video to find Davis and say he admitted to both robberies. Today, Johnson County investigators charged Davis with a third robbery, at the Hills Bank in Hills on Aug. 1. A second man, Jamarcus Knox, was also arrested and charged with driving the getaway car during that robbery. Both men are now in the Johnson County Jail.
