FAIRBANKS — The National Parks Service is proposing amendments to a management plan for the Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve. An open house will be held from 4-7 p.m. tonight at Morris Thompson Cultural and Visitors Center, 101 Dunkel Street. The plan provides guidance for stewardship of park wilderness and backcountry recreation and direct management of park resources, visitor uses and facilities for the next 15 to 20 years. The park service’s preferred alternative would continue the current management approach and provides for no new infrastructure of visitor facilities. National Park Service spokesman John Quinley said the updated plan doesn’t change anything fundamental. View the plan and submit comment until March 13 at parkplanning.nps.gov/gaar_gmp. Comments can be mailed to: Gates of the Arctic GMPA, National Park Service, 4175 Geist Rd., Fairbanks, AK 99709. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - To unsubscribe from the IOWA-TOPICS list, send any message to: [log in to unmask] Check out our Listserv Lists support site for more information: http://www.sierraclub.org/lists/faq.asp Sign up to receive Sierra Club Insider, the flagship e-newsletter.
