Dear Thomas,
The U.S. House of Representatives is scheduled to vote TODAY on H.R. 1599, a deceitful, anti-consumer, anti-Democracy bill, on Thursday, July 23.
Our last hope of stopping this bill is to flood Congress with phone calls TODAY. We need the phones ringing off the hook in the offices of every single member of the House. Please dial 1-202-224-3121 and ask to speak to your U.S. Representative TODAY. If the line is busy you can look up your Representative’s phone number here. Once you’re connected, ask your Representative to vote NO on H.R. 1599.
When you call, be sure to explain that you are a constituent, and that you want your Representative to OPPOSE H.R. 1599 because the bill falsely claims to provide a “science-based labeling standard,” when what it really does is give corporations the permanent right to deceive consumers about the ingredients in their food.
You can also tell your Representative that the recent declaration by the World Health Organization that glyphosate, the herbicide used on nearly 90 percent of GMO crops, is a human carcinogen makes it all the more critical that consumers be able to avoid foods containing GMOs if they so choose—and that a government-run voluntary labeling program just doesn’t cut it.
Please dial 1-202-224-3121 and ask to speak to your U.S. Representative TODAY. If the line is busy you can look up your Representative’s phone number here . Once you’re connected, ask your Representative to vote NO on H.R. 1599.
H.R. 1599, alternately called the DARK (Deny Americans the Right to Know) Act and the “Mother of All Monsanto Protection Acts” represents an outright attack on consumers rights, and on state governments that have historically held the right to pass food labeling laws.
H.R. 1599 makes no sense—unless you are Monsanto or one of many giant food corporations. This bill does everything to protect corporations, and nothing to protect consumers or public health.
Please call your Representative TODAY. Thank you!
