Guest Speaker:
Steve Horn is a Research Fellow at DeSmogBlog and a freelance investigative journalist based out of Madison, Wisconsin.
Steve will present what he's learned through his investigative reporting about the connection of money, the energy industry and politicians and decision makers, emphasizing the connection with Iowa issues.  Following Steve's presentation, we will have time for questions and answers with exciting discussion about the issues Steve presented.

Steve previously was a reporter and researcher at the Center for Media and Democracy. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, majoring in political science and legal studies, his writing has appeared in Al Jazeera America, The Guardian, Vice News, The Nation, Wisconsin Watch, Truth-Out, Alter Net and elsewhere.
Steve Horn’s published work includes dozens of articles published on alternative news websites such as CounterPunch.org. He has covered local and regional Midwestern issues as well as national and international concerns on energy and environmental and political issues. Topics he has covered include “greenwashing” of hydraulic fracturing, the Keystone XL pipeline, the Obama administration’s embrace of fracking, the ties behind major U.S. oil and gas companies  with Russian state oil and gas companies, the prospect that the keystone XL pipeline could not only carry tar sands but also oil extracted via hydraulic fracturing from North Dakota’s Bakken Shale basin, the people and money behind an industry-friendly Environmental Defense Fund, and a methane emissions study in an article titled, “Inside Frackedemia’s Latest Assault on Science.”
In his free time, Steve is a competitive runner, with a personal best time of 2:43:04 in the 2009 Boston Marathon.

Camaraderie:
The more of us will gather at this event, the stronger we can build a collective force to continue working effectively in support of a sustainable Iowa.
Invite your friends to join you to discuss ideas and concerns with fellow environmentalists and hear this well informed and passionate ally, investigative journalist Steve Horn.
You don’t have to be a Sierra Club member to attend the annual meeting.  If you are not a member and would like to become one, we can provide you with a membership application.
In addition to our guest speaker, the Chapter will be presenting awards to individuals and groups that have done outstanding work in protecting the environment.
