This morning the TCA signed an historic settlement agreement with the Save
San Onofre Coalition of environmental groups, including the Sierra Club.
The gist of the Settlement agreement is that the TCA agrees to withdraw
every effort to build the 241 extension in the areas we fought to protect,
which includes saving the Richard and Donna O'Niell Land Conservancy, the
San Mateo Creek Watershed, the San Onofre State Park and the San Mateo Creek
Campground, and Trestles Beach. In return, the San Onofre Coalition agreed
to withdraw the related lawsuits. While the TCA agreed not to build the
toll road in the specified areas mentioned, nothing prevents them from
trying to build it somewhere else. While there are a lot of other technical
parts to the agreement, this is the main thrust of it.

In a nutshell, we can devote our energies towards saving the environment in
other areas and issues.
