As a member of the Sierra Sage of South Orange County Group of the Sierra Club, I’d like to discuss how you can help strengthen and shape our presence locally. I am on the Nominating Committee for our group, and my job is to identify members who are willing to serve on the group’s management committee. Local Sierra Club activities are managed by volunteers like you and me who work to make a difference in our communities through our Regional Groups. Regional Groups lead hikes & outings, address environmental concerns, and organize local conservation efforts, recommend political endorsements, and host educational and social events. Groups are financially independent, and they fundraise and spend money to advance their goals. Groups are the face of the Club at public events and with elected officials. Your regional group is your home within the Sierra Club. Our Sierra Sage of South Orange County group has a long and impressive history of advocacy, but we are also in a moment of transition. We have open seats on our local management committee. To continue as a viable group, we need to begin by rebuilding our management committee. This is your opportunity to have a voice in determining what activities your regional group offers, reach out to others in your community who share your concerns and interests, and take steps to protect the environment. Here are some of the accomplishments and campaigns of the Sierra Sage of South Orange County group in recent years: • We support and monitor the restoration and native plant regrowth in Aliso Creek Trail. • We work to encourage the O C Parks Commission to enforce regulations that prohibit the use of E-Bikes in parks and recreation areas to protect wildlife, vegetation, and features. • Our group is standing up to protect California’s scenic coastline by opposing the proposed Dana Point desalination plant. We can do so much more with your help. You can express your concerns, stand up for your interests, and have an impact on the future of your community. Please consider running for election to the Sierra Sage of South Orange County management committee. If you have any questions or would like to discuss further, please feel free to reach out to me by email or phone. Our nominations must be submitted to the Angeles Chapter by late August. Thank you for your consideration, Sharon Sharon Koch (she/her), Vice-Chair Sierra Sage of South Orange County Regional Group Group Representative to Angeles Chapter Executive Committee [log in to unmask] 949-500-9656 * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * To unsubscribe from the ANGELES-SIERRA-SAGE-NEWS list, send any message to [log in to unmask] Users of Listserv are subject to the Sierra Club's Terms and Conditions (http://www.sierraclub.org/terms).
