The Sierra Club was founded to preserve and protect our natural spaces, but
preserving cultural resources is also an integral part of Sierra Club's
mission. Join us on Tuesday, July 23rd at 6:30PM to learn about the on-going
work of the California Cultural Resources Preservation Alliance (CCRPA) to
protect and preserve cultural resources such as sacred sites, archaeological
sites, historic sites, traditional resource gathering areas, cultural
landscapes, burial sites, and indigenous people's traditional places in
southern California with a focus on Orange and Los Angeles counties.
Patricia Martz, Ph.D., founding member and president of the CCRPA will talk
about efforts to help protect the traditional home of the Acjachemen in San
Juan Capistrano resulting in the dedication of Putuidem Village in the
northwest open space preserve. Tomato Springs in Irvine is another area
rich in cultural significance in Orange County where the CCRPA has had some
success.
