HelveticaTo: Iowa Sierrans
Here are the bills I am tracking for the Iowa Chapter so far introduced
this session with actions occurring accumulated in the narrative. Note
that I include the Bill #, Bill Title, some notes of milestones.
Appropriations bills are not introduced as yet; they are always after
the subcommittees complete hearing times. Bills moving onto the House
or Senate Calendars for debate appear first in the lists.
Let me know how I can make this missal, which will now be weekly, a
more useful and informative document. I will be adding other narrative
information as issues develop and as I gather it.
DISCLAIMER
I do know this is a long listing of bills. At the end of last week some
of them did 'die' in committee. Future reports will only include fully
viable bills moving on the Calendars. Ways & Means or Appropriations
bills are always eligible for introduction.
LEGISLATIVE ACTION ANTICIPATED
Attention now shifts to floor debate as the House and Senate attempt to
move bills off of their respective debate calendars and send them over
for the other chamber's consideration. For those bills that do not have
a companion bill (similar legislation under consideration in the other
chamber), quick floor debate is essential if the bill is to have a
chance of clearing the impending second funnel deadline coming in three
weeks. By April 2nd, all House bills must pass out of Senate committees
(and vice versa).
During this 10th week of session, the House can only consider House
Files and unfinished business. Similarly, the Senate can only consider
Senate bills and unfinished business. The House dedicates this week's
mornings to floor debate and afternoons to committee work. In the
Senate, a majority of the floor debate is expected to begin in the
mid-afternoon on Monday through Thursday.
Let me know how I can make this missal, which will now be weekly, a
more useful and informative document. I will be adding other narrative
information as issues develop and as I gather it.
